We made a stop at The National Museum of American History, to learn more about The Star-Spangled Banner, the flag that inspired our wonderful National Anthem. It was so neat to see and I had never heard the story behind it. I really recommend heading over to the Smithsonian next time you're in D.C., plus, it's free! Check out the link about the permanent exhibition.
Part of the Navy memorial, it super cool.
We then headed over to Ford's Theater to see the theater where Lincoln was shot and the house where he ultimately passed away. If you go, be aware you need to get tickets and the tour is self-guided. You can get an audio tour if you would like. They have a park ranger in the theater that will give a quick history of the place and event and they also answer questions. You have to wait in line for the theater and again for the house. The house where Lincoln died is right across the street from the theater. Make sure to plan enough time to see both, they close relatively early too.
The spot where Lincoln was shot. Crazy to be there and imagine what it was like that day.
The marker on The Peterson house, where Lincoln died the day after he was shot.
A replica of the bed where he died. The original is in an exhibit in Chicago.
Every book written about Lincoln is cleverly displayed at The Ford's Theater Center for Education and Leadership
We finished our day off at Fogo de Chao! So good but so much food!!!!
This is how my in-laws felt after that delicious meal!
A stop at "our" house on our walk back to the car!
Forever grateful for this family of ours!
